The U.S. is issuing hundreds of thousands of H-2A visas to recruit labor from Mexico and other countries, a program The Southern Poverty Law Center in 2013 qualified “Close to Slavery” because the H-2A program is a powerful weapon used by farmers to keep farmworker wages at their current poverty level, getting rid of it is a basic step for the movement for justice. The growers won’t give up a system so advantageous to them, or willingly raise the wages; we need a movement that forces them to do this like the strike and the boycott. This workshop will entertain strategies or campaign proposals from the participants to fight the H2-A Visas program.
